Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-02
This policy explains what data Crying Chair ("the Service") collects, how long it is kept, who it is shared with, and how to request its deletion.
Summary
- The only data kept long-term are server logs and the feedback and bug reports you choose to send.
- Game data exists only in the server's memory and is deleted when the room closes.
- The Service does not look at the content of your questions, answers, or images.
| Data | Where it is stored | How long it is kept |
|---|---|---|
| Server logs | Server, Grafana Cloud | Deleted automatically after 14 days |
| Feedback and bug reports | Google Forms | Deleted once handled |
| Images uploaded by the host | Cloudflare R2 | Deleted when the room closes (see Section 2) |
| Other game data | Server memory | Deleted when the room closes |
| Settings and room reconnection info | Your browser | Until you clear it |
1. Data kept long-term
1.1 Server logs
To troubleshoot problems and prevent abuse, the server records:
- IP address, access time, requested URL, referring page, browser information (User-Agent), and the country estimated from the IP address
- Actions in a room: a randomly generated user ID, nickname, room ID, and actions such as buzzing in and judgments
Logs do not include questions, correct answers, board answers, images, or decryption keys. Logs are stored on the server and in Grafana Cloud, and are deleted automatically after 14 days.
1.2 Feedback and bug reports
When you submit the Feedback or Bug Report form, what you entered is sent, along with your email address if you provided one. A bug report also includes console logs, a record of network requests, browser and screen information, and the path of the current page. This data is stored in Google Forms, used only to reply to you and to fix problems, and deleted once handled.
2. Data deleted when the room closes
While a room exists, the server keeps the data needed to run the game in memory, including nicknames or Discord information, scores, judgments, and board answers. This data is never written to disk, and all of it is deleted when the room closes or the server restarts.
- Questions: Questions and answers in Hayaoshi (Buzzer) mode are not stored on the server. When the host shares them, the server only relays them to players. Text in Letter Panel Mode is kept in memory while the room exists.
- Images: Images are encrypted in the host's browser before they are uploaded to Cloudflare R2, and the decryption key is never written to disk. When the room closes, the key is deleted together with the images. If a server failure prevents this, Cloudflare R2 rules delete the images automatically 24 hours after upload. That deletion is carried out by Cloudflare and may happen later than scheduled.
- Game log: The host can save the game log as a file or share it with viewers. The game log contains player names and results. Saved files are kept by the host, and the Service cannot delete them.
To prevent abuse, the server counts requests per IP address. These counts are never written to disk.
3. Data stored in your browser
The Service stores your settings, such as language and rules, the nickname you last joined a room with (to fill it in the next time you join), and the information needed to reconnect to a room (room ID, user ID, reconnection token, nickname) in your browser. This information is sent to the server only when needed, for example when you reconnect to a room, and is removed when you clear this site's browsing data.
The Service does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and uses no analytics tools.
4. Using your Discord name and avatar
"Use your Discord name and avatar" is optional. If you use it:
- The Service receives only your Discord user ID, display name, username, and avatar. It does not receive your email address, the servers you have joined, or your messages.
- The access token is used only to verify your identity when you join a room. It is never written to disk or logs, and is not used for anything else.
- Players in the same room see your Discord display name and avatar. Your Discord user ID and username are also sent to the other players: the user ID to display your avatar, and the username to tell you apart in the game log when another player has the same name.
- Your Discord display name remains in the server logs as your nickname (Section 1.1). Other Discord data is deleted when the room closes.
- You can remove Crying Chair at any time under Authorized Apps in your Discord settings.
5. Sharing with third parties
The Service does not sell your data. To provide the Service, data passes through or is stored with the following services:
| Service | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Website hosting, CDN, image storage |
| Oracle Cloud | Game server |
| Grafana Cloud | Server logs and monitoring |
| Discord | Verifying your identity when you join with Discord, and displaying avatars |
| Feedback and Bug Report forms |
Each of these services handles the data it receives under its own privacy policy. Apart from these, data is disclosed only when required by law.
6. Deletion and inquiries
Game data and server logs are deleted automatically as described above, and you can clear the data in your browser yourself. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of any other data, send a request through the Feedback form. Please include the nickname or Discord display name you used, the room ID, and the approximate time, so that the matching records can be found.
7. Changes to this policy
When this policy is updated, the "Last updated" date on this page will be changed and the update will be posted in Announcements.
